The Garrison's current site was created in 1938 and today is home to the Land Warfare Centre, Headquarters Infantry which exists to give direction and professional advice on Close Combat and Infantry matters in order to support the delivery of current and future Defence capability. The Centre delivers training and operational support to enable soldiers to prepare for operations. As part of this the garrison hosts courses for over 17,000 students each year. Every British Army officer passes through the garrison at least once during their career and many return on courses and to undertake further training.
Warminster is a small market town set between Salisbury and Bath. Warminster has a sports centre with swimming pool, which also holds activities for children and adults. Longleat Safari Park is only 4 miles from the SFA.
The Garrison has two Pre-schools and one Creche. One Pre-school and Crèche is housed in the Community Centre the other in a house in the Officers area but is used by all. The Community Centre also holds different activities in the evening to suit everyone. The AFF Training Centre is opposite the Community Centre. The 6 AEC, in Battlesbury Bks, can be used by dependants. A gymnasium in both camps (dependants must have insurance before using the Gym). Hairdresser, Spar shops, Bars can be found in both camps.
